Come hear about the state of the union and learn what you can do to strengthen it. We’ll provide a financial report, give updates about health insurance and fees legislation, discuss our plan to increase member engagement, share the results from our consultation with Provost McRorie, and reveal the results from our member survey. This is a great opportunity to catch up on what the union’s been up to this semester and to learn how you can contribute. Our union works because we do.
Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be provided. RSVP to help us plan. We hope to see you there!

Attention all FSU GAs! Your GAU needs your input.
We’ve put together a quick survey to help assess priorities on a number of important issues. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and your input is essential.

An Open Letter Against Bigotry
Graduate Assistants United (GAU), the labor union representing graduate assistants at the Florida State University (FSU), strongly condemns the scheduled appearance of Milo Yiannopoulos on our campus and finds it to be in direct contradiction to the University’s goals of creating an environment free from discrimination. Yiannopoulos, who was invited to speak by the FSU College Republicans, a Registered Student Organization at FSU, has a well documented history of racial discrimination and abuse targeted toward women, Muslims, and people of color, along with many other minority groups. He has actively encouraged harassment of vulnerable people, and his presence here can only amplify the hatred he enjoys instilling and inflaming in others.

Please welcome Cristina Carter, who was just appointed as GAU’s first official Diversity Chair! Cristina is a Tallahassee native and first-generation American. A PhD student in the Religion department, Cristina is excited to help us broaden our outreach to the many diverse groups across campus. With plans in place to contact groups for veterans, students of color, students with disabilities, and the LGBT+ community, Cristina and the diversity committee will have lots to do in the coming months. If you want to be a part of this, email her at email@example.com.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Ryan Learn, the newly elected Treasurer of GAU. Ryan was elected by acclamation during the nomination meeting on Sep 8. Originally serving as a member of the Bargaining Committee, Ryan has quickly earned a reputation for his hard work and his willingness to shore up our efforts with some serious number-crunching skills. While we’ll miss having Tara Baldrick-Morrone on the EC, we’re confident that she’s passing the torch to a worthy successor.
